BIOHIT Lactose Intolerance Quick Test
Lactose intolerance (hypolactasia) causes an inability to digest lactose, the predominant sugar in milk. This inability is caused by the reduced activity of the lactase enzyme which is formed in the small intestine. It is estimated that about 15-20% of the Western and Eastern European population, 90% of the Asian and African populations and the original inhabitants of America suffer from lactose intolerance. Its symptoms are often unidentified/undiagnosed and therefore lactose intolerance tends to be untreated for years. After the intake of lactose, lactose intolerance can cause the following symptoms in relation to the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, bloating, peristaltic problems, cramps, abdominal pains and diarrhoea.
BIOHIT Lactose Intolerance Quick Test is a semi-quantitative test based on a determination of the activity of the lactase enzyme in a biopsy sample. The biopsy sample is taken from the mucosa of the upper part of the small intestine during gastrofibroscopy and is examined immediately after sampling; it is possible to see the results 20 minutes later.
